Wellborn Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Wellborn-compatible driveway and paver components in Miami, with most replacements running $4,130 to $21,240 installed depending on the scope. If your pavers are shifting, cracking, or your driveway has developed troughs after Florida rain, we can usually diagnose it in one visit and quote the fix the same day. Most homeowners discover the problem after a heavy storm: water pools where it didn’t before, a paver sinks, or a section of the driveway lip starts crumbling at the curb.
A quick note before we go deeper: Sawyer Remodel Miami is an independent contractor, not a Wellborn subsidiary or authorized parts dealer. We work with Wellborn products because they’re well-built and the parts are predictable. That’s what matters when you need a fix that lasts through Miami’s wet season.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn’s driveway and paver line splits into two categories: their interlocking concrete paver series and their cast-stone border and accent pieces. The interlocking pavers run 60mm and 80mm thicknesses. The 60mm units are for pedestrian patios and walkways. The 80mm units are what belong under vehicle traffic. If someone installed 60mm pavers on your driveway, that’s your failure point right there, no mystery involved. In Miami, we see that mistake regularly, especially in older communities like Shenandoah and Little Havana where driveways were updated on a budget years ago.
The cast-stone border pieces have their own issue: they’re 40mm thinner than the field pavers and they take the brunt of wheel traffic at the driveway edge. If you’re replacing borders only, match the height, not just the pattern. Measure the existing paver thickness with a tape measure at the driveway lip. That single number tells us more than any model label. For OEM versus aftermarket, Wellborn’s pavers use standard aggregate blends, so a quality aftermarket unit from a Miami paver supplier often matches fine. The border and accent pieces are where we recommend staying closer to OEM specs because the color tolerances are tighter.

Signs Your Wellborn Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Water pooling after a normal rain. Miami gets 60-plus inches of rain a year, and a driveway that holds water has lost its base or its slope. The pavers are the symptom; the base underneath is the disease. Sitting water accelerates paver surface degradation and breeds mold on the joints.
- Edges crumbling at the curb. The cast-stone border pieces at the driveway apron take direct hits from car tires and street runoff. Once the edge breaks, water gets under the field pavers and starts washing out the sand base.
- Sinking or low spots where you park. A vehicle’s weight compresses the base over time, especially if the original install skimped on compacted aggregate. You’ll see it first where you park daily. That low spot spreads, and every rain makes it worse.
- Weeds or ants pushing through joints. Joint sand is supposed to lock pavers together. When it washes out or gets excavated by ant colonies, pavers shift. Once shifting starts, the interlock is broken and repairs get more expensive.
- Pavers rocking underfoot. A rocking paver means the base has fine material missing directly beneath it. It won’t reseat itself. Walk it and listen for a hollow knock; that’s the sound of a paver without support.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Miami, a full paver driveway replacement runs $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, base condition, and whether we’re hauling away the old material. A repair to a section, like re-leveling a low spot or replacing broken borders, typically falls between $4,130 and $8,260. If you’re replacing just a handful of cracked pavers, expect that on the lower end. The price includes removal of failed pavers, base re-compaction where needed, new joint sand, and the replacement units themselves.
What drives the range is base work and access. A driveway in Coconut Grove with tight access and mature tree roots costs more than a wide-open suburban driveway in Kendall. We write the price before we start, and that number doesn’t move. Every install includes our written workmanship warranty, and we’re not hard to reach if something shifts during the first year. Good work doesn’t need a sales pitch.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do the diagnosis: check paver thickness at the curb, mark low spots after rain, and look for ant mounds near joints. That gives you a real picture of what’s happening under your driveway. What you shouldn’t do is pull up pavers and re-set them yourself unless you have a plate compactor and you know how to re-compact a base. A hand tamp won’t do it. Loose pavers shifted by hand will sink again within months, and you’ll have spent a weekend creating a bigger repair.
If you’re seeing sinking, cracking, or edge failure, call us at (850) 801-8046. We’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a patch job or a base rebuild before you spend anything.
FAQs

Expect 20 to 30 years from a properly installed 80mm paver driveway in Miami, with joint sand top-ups every few years. The base matters more than the paver itself. Florida’s rain and high water table shorten that lifespan if drainage wasn’t handled correctly on day one.
Yes, if the base under the rest of the driveway is sound. We’ve done dozens of section repairs where we re-compact a low spot, reset the pavers, and re-sand the joints. Call (850) 801-8046 and we’ll give you a straight answer on what’s reparable.
Most full replacements in Miami take two to three working days, including demolition, base prep, paver installation, and joint sand. Weather can push that, especially during the June-to-October rainy season, but we’ll tell you the window before we start.
We keep common 80mm field pavers and border profiles in rotation from our Miami suppliers, and we source Wellborn-compatible units quickly when a specific color or profile is needed. We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone brand projects, so material sourcing is something we handle daily.
