IKO Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide
If you have an IKO driveway or paver system that’s cracked, shifting, or sinking, you’re not alone. We stock and install IKO-compatible driveway and paver components across Miami, with most paver repairs running $4,130 to $12,980 installed and driveway replacements landing between $5,900 and $16,520. The part that failed is usually not the paver itself but what’s underneath it: the base layer, the edge restraint, or the sand joint that locks everything together. In Miami’s heat and rainy-season downpours, those hidden layers fail long before the surface shows it.
Most homeowners in neighborhoods like Coral Gables, Brickell, Kendall, and Doral call us after they notice a paver rocking underfoot, a low spot collecting water near the garage, or a driveway edge that’s suddenly sprouting weeds. That’s the pavement telling you the locked system IKO designed has come undone somewhere.
Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO doesn’t make one universal paver. The brand covers a range of concrete paver lines with different thicknesses, face textures, and color blends, and the replacement you need depends on which is already in your driveway. The most common IKO paver profiles in Miami are 60mm and 80mm depth units. The 80mm pavers are rated for vehicular traffic, which is why you’ll see them on driveways across South Florida. The 60mm units are typically for patios and walkways, and putting them under a car will crack them within a season or two.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: IKO pavers from different production runs can vary slightly in color even when they share the same style name. If your driveway is more than five years old, a fresh IKO paver from the same line may not match exactly what’s on the ground. We flag that before ordering so you’re not surprised. For most Miami driveways, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a domestic manufacturer holds up just as well as the OEM IKO unit and often costs 15% to 20% less. The difference that actually matters is compressive strength and dimensional tolerance, not the name stamped on the back.
We’re an independent Miami contractor, not an IKO dealer or affiliate. That means we spec the right part for the job, whether it wears the IKO name or a comparable alternative that meets the same load rating.

Signs Your IKO Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Rocking or wobbling pavers underfoot. This means the bedding sand beneath that paver has washed out or compacted unevenly. In Miami, heavy afternoon storms push water under the joints and erode the sand from below, leaving the paver supported only at its edges.
- Water ponding in low spots. A properly installed IKO paver surface should drain on a subtle slope. If water sits for more than an hour after rain, the base beneath that area has settled, and the pavers have dropped with it.
- Weeds or ants pushing up between joints. Joint sand was never sealed or has washed away. Once the sand is gone, the pavers lose lateral support and start shifting sideways under load.
- Edge pavers separating from the border. This is an edge restraint failure. The plastic or concrete edge that holds the outside course of pavers in place has cracked or pulled away, and now the whole field is spreading outward.
- Cracked or chipped paver faces. A surface crack usually means the paver is not fully supported underneath, so vehicle weight flexes it until it snaps. A cracked surface paver is rarely just a surface problem.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what IKO driveway and paver work costs in Miami right now. Paver patio installation runs $4,130 to $12,980. Paver driveway installation runs $8,260 to $21,240. Driveway replacement runs $5,900 to $16,520. Driveway sealing, which is the cheapest insurance against Miami’s rainy-season base erosion, runs $295 to $825.
Where does the range come from? Square footage, paver depth, how much of the base needs to be re-excavated versus salvaged, and whether we’re matching existing IKO pavers or starting fresh. Every quote includes the parts, labor, base repair, joint sand, and haul-off of the failed material. The number you approve is the number on the invoice. No change orders because we found something we “didn’t expect.” We know what’s under a Miami paver driveway before we start because we’ve opened up hundreds of them. And every repair carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if it’s not done right, we come back and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely inspect your IKO pavers: walk the surface, mark the low spots and rocking units, check the edges for separation. That helps us quote over the phone. What you shouldn’t do is pull up pavers and rebuild the base yourself. The work is not dangerous the way a garage door spring is dangerous, but it is heavier and more technical than it looks. A single 80mm concrete paver weighs around 20 pounds. A full driveway means moving tons. And if the base isn’t re-compacted in lifts and re-sloped correctly, you’ll be looking at the same settlement problem a year from now, except now you’ve spent weekends and sweat on it.
Luca Romano and our crew have been opening up Miami driveways for years, and the second DIY repair is almost always because the first one was never built on a proper compacted base. If you want this fixed once, call (850) 801-8046 and we’ll give you a written price before we touch a single paver.
FAQs

Properly installed IKO pavers in Miami last 25 to 40 years, but that lifespan depends entirely on the base and edge restraint beneath them. The pavers themselves rarely fail from weather, what fails first is the sand joints and compaction layer under Miami’s heavy rain cycles.
Yes, individual pavers can be pulled, the bedding sand re-screeded, and the paver reinstalled, but only if the base beneath it is still sound. If the base has settled, the repair won’t hold. We’ll tell you which situation you have before quoting. Call (850) 801-8046 for a free evaluation.
Most isolated paver repairs take one day. A full driveway re-base and re-install typically runs three to five working days depending on square footage and how much excavation is needed. You’ll get a written timeline before work starts.
We keep common IKO and IKO-compatible paver profiles in stock for pickup-style repairs, but color-matched production-run IKO units usually have a lead time of 5 to 10 business days. We can also source quality aftermarket equivalents faster if matching isn’t critical to you.
