Tamko Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Tamko-compatible driveway pavers across Miami, with most replacement jobs running $8260 to $21240 installed depending on square footage, paver style, and the condition of your base layer. If you’re looking at a cracked Tamko paver, a sinking section, or edge pavers that have shifted out of alignment, we can usually match your existing product and have the repair quoted the same day we look at it.
Most Miami homeowners discover a problem the hard way: a paver cracks under a delivery truck, a section sinks after two months of afternoon downpours settling the sand base, or the edge restraints give way and pavers start wandering into the lawn. The good news is Tamko pavers are modular, and a damaged section rarely means tearing out the whole driveway.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s paver line in South Florida generally splits into two categories: their interlocking concrete pavers (the thicker, heavier units rated for vehicle traffic) and their thinner architectural pavers meant for patios and walkways. For a driveway, you need the interlocking series, and the quickest way to identify yours is to flip one over. The back face usually carries a mold stamp with the size and a production date code. Take a picture of that stamp before you call anyone – it saves half a measuring session.
The compatibility gotcha we deal with constantly: Tamko changed the bevel profile on several paver molds around 2019, so a paver bought today can sit slightly proud or recessed against the older product. It’s not a structural problem, but your eye will find it every morning. When we do a repair, we bring both old and new profile samples to the site and match what’s physically in your driveway, not what the catalog says should be there. As for OEM versus aftermarket: Tamko’s own pavers are consistent, color-through product, but quality aftermarket equivalents from established Florida distributors run 15% to 20% cheaper and hold color about as well. We stock both and tell you the difference before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Tamko Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Hairline cracks spreading across a single paver. This is usually a base problem underneath, not a bad paver. Miami’s sandy limestone base shifts with heavy rain and drought cycles, and the paver is just reflecting that movement.
- A low spot collecting water after rain. Pooling water means the sand bed below has washed out or compacted unevenly. Left alone, that low spot grows and starts pulling neighboring pavers down with it.
- Pavers rocking underfoot with a hollow sound. The paver itself is fine; the bedding layer underneath has failed. The fix is lifting the section, re-screening the base, and re-compacting. A whole-driveway tearout is rarely needed for this.
- Edge pavers spreading outward at the driveway border. Your edge restraint has failed or was never installed properly. In Miami, plastic edge restraints degrade fast in UV and heat, and once the border goes, the whole field starts drifting.
- White chalky residue on the paver surface. That’s efflorescence, common in coastal air with high humidity. It’s cosmetic but ugly, and it means moisture is cycling through the paver. Cleaning and sealing stops it for a season or two, but the real fix is improving drainage under the base.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s where the money goes on a typical Miami Tamko paver driveway job:
- Partial repair (under 100 sq ft): $826 to $2124, including paver matching, base re-screening, and re-compaction.
- Half-driveway rebuild: $4130 to $8260, depending on base condition and whether we’re hauling off failed sand or reusing compacted material.
- Full paver driveway installation: $8260 to $21240. The spread comes down to paver thickness (60mm vs 80mm), site access, whether the old base needs full excavation, and the paver style you choose.
Every job includes a written price before we move a single paver, and the number we quote is the number you pay. We pull permits when Miami-Dade requires them, and the work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something’s wrong within a year, we come back and make it right, in writing, no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely reset one or two loose pavers yourself if you’re patient: lift them out, re-level the sand with a straight board, set them back, and sweep joint sand into the cracks. That’s honest work an owner can handle on a Saturday. What you shouldn’t do is rent a plate compactor and start re-bedding a sinking section without knowing how deep the base failure goes. We’ve pulled apart DIY repairs in Coral Gables where the homeowner compacted over a washed-out base and made the drainage problem worse than when he started.
If the section is bigger than a wheelbarrow’s worth of pavers, or you’ve got a low spot that’s been growing for more than one rainy season, call us at (850) 801-8046. Luca Romano walks every driveway job himself before we quote, and the estimate doesn’t cost you anything.
FAQs

In Miami’s heat, humidity, and storm cycles, a properly installed Tamko driveway paver field typically lasts 20 to 30 years before the pavers themselves wear out, though the base underneath usually needs re-screening every 10 to 15 years. The pavers don’t fail; the ground under them does.
Yes, in most cases we repair and re-set the affected section rather than pulling the whole driveway, which keeps a typical job in the $826 to $4130 range instead of a full replacement starting at $8260. The catch is that old pavers fade and weather, so a partial repair may show a color difference until the whole field ages into it.
A small partial repair of 100 square feet or less is usually done in one day, including compaction and cleanup. A half-driveway rebuild takes two to three days, and a full installation runs a week on average depending on how much base work Miami’s soil forces us to do.
We keep the most common Tamko interlocking sizes and both bevel profiles in our Miami inventory, along with edge restraints and joint sand, so most repairs start the same visit. If your exact color is an odd one, we source it from our South Florida distributor within a few days and show you the match before we install it.
