ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide
We stock and install ActiveYards-compatible driveway and paver parts across Miami, with most replacements running between $4,130 and $21,240 installed depending on whether you’re fixing a section or redoing the whole driveway. Same-week scheduling is standard for parts we keep on hand. Most Miami homeowners call us after a summer storm or a few years of sun and salt air have taken their toll: pavers shift and sink, edges crack, or the base washes out and leaves a low spot that puddles every time it rains. You’ll notice it first as a trip hazard or a paver that rocks underfoot.
Before we get deeper: Sawyer Remodel Miami is an independent service provider, not affiliated with ActiveYards. We work on their systems because they’re well-built, and because Miami’s climate puts every driveway material through more abuse than the manufacturer’s warranty ever imagined.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards driveway and paver systems split into two broad families: interlocking concrete pavers and the aluminum-frame paver grid system. The interlocking pavers come in modular sizes, most commonly 60mm and 80mm thicknesses for vehicle traffic in South Florida. The aluminum-frame system is what catches people off guard: the frames themselves look identical across several ActiveYards series lines, but the corner connectors and paver tray inserts changed dimensions between older and newer production runs. If you’re swapping a section, photograph the connector and measure the paver tray’s inside lip before ordering anything.
Getting the right part means pulling a paver and looking at the underside for the mold stamp, then checking the frame rail for a sticker or embossed series code. Half the service calls we run in Coral Gables and the Roads are owners who bought a close-match paver from a big-box store only to find it sits two millimeters higher than its neighbors. For ActiveYards specifically, OEM parts keep the color lot and manufacturing tolerance consistent. Quality aftermarket pavers from Oldcastle or Belgard can match the dimensions, but the color blends won’t be exact on anything but a full replacement.
There’s also the Miami factor: our soil shifts, we get afternoon downpours that dump an inch of rain in twenty minutes, and the water table in parts of Miami sits high enough that base drainage matters as much as the paver itself. If a section of your drive is sinking, the part that failed is usually the base underneath, not the paver on top. We mention this because replacing pavers without fixing the base is a repair you’ll pay for twice.

Signs Your ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Rockers and trip edges. A paver that tips when you step on an edge means the sand bed under it has washed away or compacted unevenly. In Miami, this usually traces back to a downspout pouring water against the driveway or a sprinkler head pointed the wrong way. One rocking paver is a warning sign, not an emergency, but it will get worse.
- Puddles that outlast the rain. Pavers should shed water within a few minutes. If a puddle sits for hours after a Miami afternoon storm, the base under that section has settled or the original install skipped the slope. Standing water is what turns a cosmetic problem into a structural one.
- Cracked or spalled pavers. Concrete pavers can last decades, but salt air and that brutal August sun cause surface spalling, where the top layer flakes off. You’ll see this most on pavers near the street or wherever pool water splashes onto the drive. A spalled paver hasn’t failed structurally yet, but it will keep degrading.
- Frame rails poking through or flexing. On the aluminum-frame ActiveYards system, a frame that flexes or a corner connector that’s popped loose means the support grid was overloaded or improperly bedded. You’ll feel a soft spot under a car tire before you see it. This one deserves attention sooner, since a failed frame section puts uneven load on surrounding pavers.
- Ant mounds and washout lines along the edges. If you see sand-colored trails washing onto the sidewalk or street after every rain, your paver joints are losing the polymeric sand that locks the system together. Ants love that sand bed. Ignore it long enough and pavers start shifting laterally, not just settling.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the pricing reality in Miami right now:
| Scope of Work | Typical Installed Range |
|---|---|
| Paver driveway installation (full) | $8,260 – $21,240 |
| Paver patio installation | $4,130 – $12,980 |
| Paver section repair / spot replacement | $800 – $3,500 (subject to site visit) |
| Re-level and re-sand existing driveway | $1,500 – $4,500 |
What moves the number: total square footage, whether the existing base is worth saving, paver thickness (60mm vs 80mm matters for durability under parked cars), and the cost of hauling away the old material. Every quote from Sawyer Remodel Miami includes the full markup breakdown: materials, labor, haul-off, and base work as separate line items. No change orders. Our written price before any work starts is the price you pay, and every paver job carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a section is settling a year later, we fix it.

DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do the diagnosis. Pull a paver, look for the mold stamp, check if the base beneath it is solid or sandy. That’s where the safe part ends. Driveway pavers work as a system: paver, sand bed, compacted base, drainage. Pull one and you’re into the sand bed. Pull ten and you’re into the base. Get the base wrong and you’ll have a worse problem than you started with in six months.
We also see Miami homeowners try to shortcut this with bagged sand from the hardware store. That sand is never the right gradation, it washes out in one good storm, and the paver edge they “fixed” turns into a rocker by Labor Day. The aluminum-frame ActiveYards systems are even less DIY-friendly: the connectors are tension-fit, and if you seat one wrong you create a pressure point that cracks a paver under the first car that rolls over it.
If you want to understand what’s failing before you call anyone, we’re happy to walk you through it by phone. If you want it fixed right, the number is (850) 801-8046.
FAQs

Properly installed concrete pavers last 20 to 30 years in Miami’s climate, though surface spalling from salt and UV usually shows up between year 10 and 15 on heavily exposed sections. The base, not the paver, is what usually dictates lifespan. A paver sitting on a bad base becomes a problem in three to five years. Call (850) 801-8046 if you want us to assess what’s under yours before you spend on anything.
Yes, in most cases. Section repairs, re-leveling, and re-sanding fix a large share of driveway failures for a fraction of a new install. We’ll tell you honestly if the base is too far gone to save, because a repair over a dead base is wasted money and we don’t do that. The site visit is free, so you’ll know the truth before any check is written.
Most residential paver driveways in Miami take three to five working days from tear-out to walkable. Weather can shift that, since you can’t compact a wet base, and summer rain patterns occasionally add a day. We’ll put the schedule and the written price in your hands before the first paver comes up.
We stock or source ActiveYards-compatible pavers and frame components direct, and we handle the matching so the color and dimensions align with your existing install. We also work with quality equivalents from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on multi-material projects where a match across the property matters. We’d rather source it right the first time than watch you spend an afternoon guessing at a big-box store.
