Tuff Shed Bathroom Remodeling: The Miami Owner’s Guide

A Tuff Shed bathroom remodel in Miami typically runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed, and most projects take two to four weeks once materials land. We stock the common failure points: rotted subfloor framing, failed shower pans, and moisture-warped wall panels. Most owners call us after they notice the floor getting soft near the shower, or when the shed starts smelling musty even after airing it out. Miami’s humidity doesn’t help – a Tuff Shed bathroom built with standard materials can start showing problems in three to five years without proper waterproofing. If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already found the soft spot or the mildew line.

We’re Sawyer Remodel Miami, and we’re not affiliated with Tuff Shed. We’re an independent remodeling contractor that specializes in converting and repairing these structures the right way, for Miami’s climate specifically. Luca Romano and our crew have pulled apart enough of these bathrooms to know exactly where they fail and what it costs to fix them properly.

Which Tuff Shed Models This Applies To

Tuff Shed builds two main product lines that end up with bathrooms: the Premier Pro Series and the Premier Ranch Series. Both use similar construction methods, but the Pro Series tends to have taller wall studs and a heavier floor system rated for more interior finish weight. Most Miami owners have either the 10×12 or 12×16 footprint when a bathroom is involved, though we’ve worked on 8×10 conversions too.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: Tuff Shed floor systems are engineered for storage loads, not wet-area dead load. A standard shed floor uses 2×4 or 2×6 joists on 16-inch or 24-inch centers, depending on the model and year. Once you add tile, mortar, a shower pan, and a toilet, you’re asking that floor to carry weight it was never designed for. If your shed was built before 2018, there’s a good chance the floor joists are 2x4s on 24-inch centers, and that simply won’t hold a full tile bathroom long-term. We verify joist size and spacing before quoting anything.

For the build-out itself, we use the same material standards as a residential bathroom: Schluter Kerdi waterproofing membrane, cement board, and proper slope on every shower pan. You can buy aftermarket repair kits online for shed bathrooms, but they rarely include the waterproofing layers that actually stop the rot. We’d rather do it once.

Signs Your Tuff Shed Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • Soft or springy floor near the shower or toilet. This is the classic symptom of water getting past the waterproofing and into the plywood subfloor. In Miami’s humidity, that rot spreads fast once it starts. The joists underneath are usually next.
  • Musty smell that won’t go away. If the bathroom smells like a boat bilge even after cleaning, you’ve got moisture trapped somewhere it shouldn’t be – typically behind wall panels or under the floor. Opening it up is the only way to find it.
  • Wall panels swelling or peeling at the bottom edges. Shed wall systems aren’t naturally water-resistant. Once water wicks up from a leaking shower curb or toilet seal, the paneling delaminates and the framing behind it starts to rot.
  • Shower floor flexing or cracking. Pre-fab plastic shower pans in sheds sit directly on the subfloor, which flexes more than a slab-on-grade home. The pan eventually cracks at the drain or corners, and then every shower leaks into the structure.
  • Door sticking or won’t close square. Moisture swelling in the framing changes the geometry of the opening. If the bathroom door suddenly sticks, it’s often because the floor system is expanding from water damage below.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A freestanding soaking tub in a remodeled primary bathroom

A full Tuff Shed bathroom remodel in Miami runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed. Here’s how that breaks down:

Scope Typical Miami Price Range
Full bathroom tear-out and rebuild (shower, toilet, vanity, tile, waterproofing) $10,620 – $33,040
Shower replacement only, with new waterproofing and pan $3,540 – $10,030
Tub-to-shower conversion (when plumbing allows) $4,130 – $11,800
Floor repair and re-leveling from water damage $1,500 – $5,000 depending on joist damage

What drives the cost: the condition of the floor framing, the finish materials you pick (tile, fixtures, vanity), and whether the shed’s electrical and plumbing rough-ins need upgrading to meet Miami-Dade code. Every quote includes labor, materials, and the waterproofing system. We put the price in writing before any work starts, and that’s the number you approve. No change orders unless you decide to upgrade something mid-project, and that’s your call, not ours.

Every Tuff Shed bathroom remodel comes with our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t done right in the first year, we come back and make it right. In writing, on every job.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest answer. You can check the easy stuff yourself: look for visible water staining, feel the floor for soft spots, run the shower and watch where the water goes. That inspection costs you nothing and tells you what you’re dealing with.

But tearing out a Tuff Shed bathroom and rebuilding it correctly is not a weekend project. You’re dealing with structural framing, waterproofing systems, plumbing, and electrical in a building that was never designed for wet-area loads in the first place. One missed waterproofing detail in Miami’s climate means rot starts again, and you’re back at square one in two years. Most DIY shed bathroom remodels we’ve seen end up costing more than our quote would have, because we’re fixing the DIY attempt first. Good work doesn’t need a sales pitch. If you want it done once, call us at (850) 801-8046 and we’ll give you a written price.
