Bufftech Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide
If you’ve got a Bufftech driveway or paver system in Miami and a section is cracked, sinking, or pulling apart, we can usually match the failed piece and have it replaced within a day or two of your estimate. A full Bufftech paver driveway replacement in Miami runs $8,260 to $21,240 installed, while repairing a smaller failed section typically lands between $1,000 and $3,500 depending on how far the damage spreads. Most Miami owners discover the problem the same way: a paver that suddenly rocks underfoot, a joint that’s opened up after a hard rain, or an edge that’s started to slough toward the lawn.
Bufftech makes a full line of vinyl pavers and edging systems for retaining walls, walkways, and driveway borders. What we handle most often in Miami isn’t the vinyl itself failing; it’s the base underneath or the interlocking tabs getting brittle after years of UV and humidity. That’s the part people miss until a wheel catches an edge and the whole row starts to shift.
Sawyer Remodel Miami is an independent contractor, not a Bufftech dealer or affiliate, but we stock and source Bufftech-compatible parts regularly and we know which pieces are interchangeable and which ones aren’t.
Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

Bufftech is best known for their SimTek and Cerberus paver lines, along with flat-top and scalloped edge systems used on driveways, pool decks, and walkways. The parts people call us about are usually individual pavers, end caps, and connector tabs from the SimTek system, but we also run into older Bufftech edging that’s no longer in production.
Here’s the compatibility headache: Bufftech has changed tab spacing and edge profiles over the years. A paver from a 2012 SimTek run will not always lock into a 2023 SimTek section cleanly, even though both say “SimTek” on the label. That’s the first thing we check before ordering. We measure the tab interval, the face height, and the edge profile, then match from there. If the original line is discontinued, we’ll source a quality aftermarket equivalent that matches the existing profile. OEM SimTek and Cerberus pieces are usually still available in Miami, but freight time can stretch to a week or more on less common colors. Aftermarket pieces from regional suppliers often arrive in 48 hours.
One more Miami-specific note: the sandstone and desert tan colors fade differently under our sun than they do up north. If you’re replacing a section, expect the new pieces to be slightly more vivid for the first season. We blend them as best we can, but fresh vinyl always shows a little until it weathers in.

Signs Your Bufftech Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- A paver rocks or tips when you step on it. This usually means the sand base under that spot has washed out, which is common in Miami after heavy afternoon downpours. The paver itself is often fine; it’s the support that failed.
- Joints are spreading apart along one row. The connector tabs on Bufftech pavers get brittle after six to ten years of UV and humidity cycles. Once a few tabs snap, the whole row loses tension and starts to drift.
- An edge paver has dropped below the driveway line. Edge restraint failure. Water gets in at the seam, erodes the base, and the outside course sinks first. You’ll see it most often where the driveway meets the lawn or a garden bed.
- You see white stress marks or small cracks at the corners. Vinyl pavers flex, but once the material ages in Florida heat it gets less forgiving. Corner cracks are the first sign the material is at the end of its life.
- Water pools in a section that used to drain. The base has settled or the subgrade under it is eroding. In most of Miami, that means sandy soil shifting over time, especially in areas like Kendall or Westchester where the ground runs loose.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the honest price picture for Miami. A full paver driveway replacement using Bufftech or a compatible system runs $8,260 to $21,240 installed, with the range driven by square footage, prep work, and whether we’re pulling out old material. A partial repair, like replacing a failing row or a collapsed edge section, usually lands between $1,000 and $3,500 all in, depending on how much base work is needed.
Every estimate from Sawyer Remodel Miami includes the parts, the labor, the base material, and haul-off of the old pavers in one written number. You approve that number before we start, and that’s the number on the invoice at the end. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the install: if something we set settles or fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. If a repair fails on our workmanship, the second visit is free.
For reference, paver patio installation in Miami runs $4,130 to $12,980, so if you’re considering whether to repair the driveway or expand into a patio, we can quote both at the same time.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Look at the failed section and note whether the joint gaps are consistent. If one row has spread but the rest are tight, the tabs on that row are likely gone. You can also check whether the base material under the edge is visibly washed out.
What we don’t recommend is pulling and resetting interlocking pavers yourself, especially on a driveway slope. The pieces lock under tension, and when you pop one free the whole row can let go at once. It’s not high-tension like a garage spring, but a sudden release will bruise shins and fingers. There’s also the base problem: if you reset the paver on bad base, it fails again in a month and you’ve spent your weekend for nothing.
If the damage is limited to one or two pavers on flat ground, a capable DIYer can swap them. If the row is spreading or the edge is dropping, call us at (850) 801-8046. We’ll give you a written price before any work starts.
FAQs

Plan on 15 to 20 years for the vinyl pavers themselves in Miami, but the base underneath them typically needs attention at the 10 to 12 year mark because of rain erosion and sandy soil. The pavers usually outlast the install; the failure is almost always underneath. Call (850) 801-8046 for a free estimate if the base is starting to show through.
Yes, if the pavers are intact and the problem is a washed-out base or snapped connector tabs, we can often repair the section rather than replace it. Repair costs in Miami generally run $1,000 to $3,500 for a bounded section, versus a full replacement at $8,260 to $21,240. Call (850) 801-8046 and we’ll tell you which one your driveway actually needs.
Most section replacements take one to two days once the parts arrive. Part lead time is the real variable: common colors and profiles we can often source in 48 hours, while discontinued colors may take a week or more. Call (850) 801-8046 and we’ll give you a timeline with your written estimate.
We keep common connector tabs and a small selection of SimTek pavers on hand, but most full-color matches we order per job to make sure the profile and color line up. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for other remodel finishes if your project grows past the driveway. If you’re in a hurry, call (850) 801-8046 and Luca or one of the crew will tell you what’s on the truck in Miami today.
