Kohler Bathroom Remodeling: The Miami Owner’s Guide
A full Kohler bathroom remodel in Miami typically runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed, depending on the size of the space, which Kohler fixtures you’re keeping, and what’s behind the walls once we open them up. We stock Kohler-compatible trim, valves, cartridges, and finish kits on our trucks, and we can source any Kohler part from our supply network in Dade County within 48 hours. Most homeowners call us after one of three things happens: a Kohler valve starts dripping and won’t stop, the finish on a faucet or shower trim starts flaking after a few years of Miami’s hard water, or they’ve got a tub spout or handheld that’s lost pressure and the cartridge is shot.
Luca Romano and our crew have been tearing out and rebuilding bathrooms across Miami for years, and we see the same Kohler failure points over and over. The good news is that most Kohler parts are serviceable without a full gut job. The bad news is that mixing generations of Kohler valves and trims is where DIY work goes sideways fast.
Which Kohler Models This Applies To

We work on everything Kohler makes for the bathroom: Purist, Loure, Stillness, Artifacts, Bancroft, Forte, Alteo, and the newer Anthem digital valve line. The most common compatibility gotcha we run into is the Rite-Temp pressure-balancing valve. Kohler has made three versions of it since the 1980s, and the trim kit from a new Rite-Temp valve will not fit the older 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch Rite-Temp bodies. You can’t eyeball this one from the front of the shower wall. You either need the model number off the original trim plate or we check the valve body from behind the wall. If you’ve got a Kohler shower from a Miami condo built before 2005, there’s a solid chance you have the older valve body and need the older trim, which is still available but has to be ordered.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question for Kohler: we install genuine Kohler cartridges and stems every time. The aftermarket equivalents for Kohler pressure-balancing cartridges fail noticeably faster, especially in Miami where the municipal water runs through older high-rise plumbing and picks up sediment. The cost difference between an OEM Kohler cartridge and a knockoff is usually $20 to $40. Not worth it. We’ll match that advice on finish trims too, because the PVD finishes Kohler uses hold up better over several years of daily use and hard water than the plated aftermarket replacements. Sawyer Remodel Miami is an independent contractor. We are not affiliated with Kohler, but we’ve installed and serviced so many of their valves and fixtures that we know their compatibility charts cold.

Signs Your Kohler Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Constant drip from the tub spout or shower head. That’s usually the Rite-Temp pressure-balancing cartridge wearing out. In Miami’s hard water, mineral buildup on the cartridge seats causes that slow drip, and it never fixes itself.
- Water temperature fluctuates when someone flushes a toilet. The pressure-balancing spool inside the valve is sticking. We see this a lot in older Miami Beach condos where the building pressure swings more than a single-family home.
- Finish flaking or pitting on the faucet or shower trim. Kohler’s PVD finishes are tough, but once the base metal is exposed to Miami humidity and hard water, it corrodes faster than in drier climates. That’s a trim kit replacement, not a whole new valve.
- Low pressure from the handheld or rain head. Before blaming the fixture, we check the flow restrictor and the supply stops. Often it’s debris in the Kohler diverter or a clogged inlet screen, and that’s a cheap fix on the spot.
- Handle gets stiff or hard to turn. The cartridge is binding. In older Kohler valves, the brass stem and the plastic cap corrode together. Forcing the handle is how people snap stems off in the wall.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

At the parts level, replacing a Kohler Rite-Temp cartridge in Miami runs $150 to $350 installed, depending on whether we’re pulling a trim plate or opening a tile wall to reach the valve body. A trim kit swap is $250 to $600 for parts and labor. A full shower valve replacement, where we open the wall, cut out the old valve, and sweat in a new Kohler valve, runs $1,200 to $2,800 depending on the access and whether we’re doing tile repair after.

Every job is priced in writing before we touch a tool. The number we quote is the number on the invoice. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a Kohler part we installed fails within a year, we come back and make it right. No argument, no fine print game.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things before calling. Turn the water off at the fixture stops and remove the faucet aerator. Soak it in vinegar, clear the screen, and put it back. That fixes a surprising number of pressure complaints. You can also look under the sink for the model number on any visible Kohler tag, which helps us quote faster. What we don’t recommend is pulling a shower valve apart. If you cross-thread a Kohler cartridge retainer or crack the valve body because the old cartridge is seized, that’s a wall cut and a bigger bill. We’ve had homeowners in Brickell and Coral Gables turn a $200 cartridge job into a $1,500 valve replacement by forcing it. Not worth the savings.

FAQs

Kohler cartridges typically last 8 to 12 years in Miami’s water conditions. Hard water shortens that. The finish on Kohler trim usually holds up 10 to 15 years before visible pitting starts. We’ve pulled original Kohler valves out of 1990s Miami condos that still worked, but the trim and cartridge were past done. If you’re at the 10-year mark and seeing drip or finish issues, it’s usually replacement time.
No, cartridges are not worth repairing. They’re precision-molded plastic and rubber internals, and once they start leaking, the seats are worn. Replacing the cartridge with a Kohler OEM part takes under an hour for most models. Call (850) 801-8046 for an exact quote.
Most cartridge and trim replacements are done in one visit, usually under two hours. Full valve replacements with tile repair are a two-day job: one day for the plumbing, one day to close the wall and repair the tile. We give you the written price and timeline before we start.
Yes. Our trucks carry the most common Rite-Temp cartridges, stems, aerators, and trim screws for Kohler valves. If we don’t have your exact part, we source it from our supply network across Miami within 48 hours.
