KraftMaid Roofing: The Miami Owner’s Guide

KraftMaid-compatible roofing components in Miami typically run $470 – $2,125 installed for repairs and $9,440 – $23,600 for full replacement, depending on what failed and how much of the system it took with it. We keep the most common KraftMaid-spec flashing, sealant systems, and underlayment materials on our trucks, which means most single-part failures get diagnosed and fixed in one visit. Most Miami homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a water stain on the ceiling after a hard afternoon storm, or granules collecting in the gutter after a windy week off the bay.

We’re an independent Miami contractor, not a KraftMaid corporate affiliate. That means we tell you straight what needs replacing, what can wait, and what it costs before we touch a single shingle.

Which KraftMaid Models This Applies To

New painted shaker cabinets with an organized deep drawer

KraftMaid’s roofing line spans three main series, and the parts don’t always swap between them. The Legacy series uses a standard 3-tab asphalt profile with a 25-year rated lifespan. The Shield series steps up to architectural shingles with a heavier granule bed and a wind rating up to 130 mph. The Coastal series is the one we see most in Miami, and it’s built different for a reason: UV-stabilized asphalt, a wider nail strip, and a granule mix designed to hold up under salt air and constant sun. The compatibility gotcha that trips up a lot of owners: Legacy flashing kits don’t seal correctly on Shield or Coastal profiles. The raised profile height on the architectural shingles is roughly 30% thicker, and using a flat-profile flashing on it leaves a gap that Miami’s sideways rain will absolutely find.

Here’s how to identify your model before you call. Check the underside of any loose shingle or look inside the gutter after a storm for a shingle wrapper. KraftMaid prints the series name on the cellophane bundling. If you can’t find that, measure a full shingle: Legacy runs 12 inches by 36 inches, while Shield and Coastal run 13¼ inches by 39⅜ inches. That quarter-inch matters when it comes to matching underlayment exposure and nail line placement. As for OEM versus aftermarket: KraftMaid’s OEM components are solid, but you’ll pay a 20 – 40% premium for the label. For sealants and underlayment, we often recommend aftermarket equivalents from GAF or CertainTeed that meet or exceed the same ASTM ratings. For the shingle itself, we recommend staying OEM so the color and granule blend match what’s already on your roof. A half-matched Miami roof is a roof nobody wants to look at for the next 15 years.

Signs Your KraftMaid Roofing Is Failing

Here’s what we see on Miami job sites, in order of frequency:

  • Granule loss collecting in gutters or downspouts. This is the earliest warning sign. Miami’s UV index and heat break down the asphalt bond faster than most climates, and the granules are the first layer to go. A small pile is normal for year one. A consistent accumulation after every rain means the shingle surface is breaking down and the waterproofing layer underneath is next.
  • Curling or lifting at the shingle edges. We see this all over Coral Gables and Brickell, especially on west-facing roof planes. The Florida sun bakes the asphalt until it loses flexibility, and then the edges curl upward. Once water can get under the curl, it starts working its way toward the nail line, and from there it’s a slow leak that shows up months later on your ceiling.
  • Dark streaks or staining on the roofline. In Miami’s humidity, that’s usually algae or moss taking hold, which is more than cosmetic. The organic matter holds moisture against the shingle surface and accelerates granule loss. On KraftMaid Coastal and Shield series, the manufacturer uses some copper-infused granules to slow this, but nothing stops it forever in our climate.
  • Water stains on ceilings or walls after a storm, even a small one. By the time you see this, the failure has been active for a while. The water travels laterally along the roof deck before it finds a seam or penetration to drop through. The actual entry point might be ten feet from where the stain appears.
  • Loose or missing flashing around vents, chimneys, or skylights. This is the most common point of failure on Miami roofs, and it’s often not the shingle’s fault at all. High winds off the bay work the flashing loose over time, and once the seal breaks, water follows. On KraftMaid roofs, the OEM flashing is aluminum, which is fine, but the sealant holding it is the weak point.

If you’re seeing any of these, call us at (850) 801-8046. We’ll send someone out to look before it turns into drywall repair on top of roof repair, and that’s a bill nobody in Miami wants.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A galley kitchen opened up to the dining room with a new peninsula

For KraftMaid roofing work in Miami, roof repair runs $470 – $2,125 and full roof replacement runs $9,440 – $23,600. What pushes you toward the top of that range:

  • Roof pitch and height. A two-story home on a 6/12 pitch costs more in labor and equipment than a single-story on a 4/12. Steeper roofs in neighborhoods like Coconut Grove need more setup time and safety gear.
  • Series match. Coastal series shingles run about 15 – 25% more than Legacy series for material cost alone.
  • Underlayment condition. If the failure went on long enough to rot the underlayment or the decking underneath, that’s additional material and labor. We won’t know until we pull the damaged section.
  • Flashing replacement. If the flashing is the failure point, and it usually is on Miami roofs hit by years of wind-driven rain, that’s a separate line item from the shingle repair.

Every job gets a written line-item price before we start. The number on the invoice is the number you approved. We don’t do change orders on this kind of work, and the repair carries our workmanship warranty under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we make it right, in writing, for a full year after the job closes.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe line between what you can check and what you should call us for. Checking gutters for granule accumulation, looking for visible curling from the ground, and snapping a photo of water stains on the ceiling: that’s all fine, and honestly useful. Climbing onto a Miami roof in the middle of the wet season to caulk a loose flashing: that’s where good intentions turn into a hospital visit. Wet shingles are slick, and a 25-foot fall doesn’t care how handy you are.

If the tear is clean, under a few inches, and you can reach it from a ladder without getting on the roof itself, a temporary peel-and-stick patch is within a competent homeowner’s reach. But we’d say it straight: a temporary patch in Miami is a leak waiting for the next thunderstorm. The patch buys you a week, not a season. Call (850) 801-8046 and let us give you a written estimate for the real fix. Good work doesn’t need a sales pitch, so we’ll skip the pitch and tell you exactly what it costs.
