Oldcastle Fence Installation: The Miami Owner’s Guide

Oldcastle fence installation in Miami typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a complete panel-and-post replacement, and we stock Oldcastle-compatible rails, posts, and hardware so most repairs are done in one visit. The usual symptom that brings homeowners to this page is a fence panel that suddenly lists to one side after a storm, or a gate that drags against the ground where it never used to. We’re Sawyer Remodel Miami, and we handle Oldcastle fence installation as a core part of our exterior work across Dade County.

What usually happened is simple: the aluminum post below the panel corroded at ground level, or a rail connector snapped under wind load. Oldcastle’s Miami-area installations deal with salt air, hurricane gusts, and a water table that sits right under the topsoil, and those three things decide which parts fail first. You don’t need a whole new fence unless the damage is widespread. Most of the time, it’s a handful of parts and a few hours of work.

Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle produces fencing under several lines that show up constantly in Miami: the standard aluminum residential rail system, the heavier commercial-grade steel rail, and the vinyl privacy line used in newer subdivisions. The aluminum residential panels are the most common, and they’re the ones we match parts for most often. The pickets are typically 5/8″ wide with a 1-5/8″ top and bottom rail, and posts run 2″ square in either 7′ or 8′ lengths depending on whether the fence is cut to follow a slope.

If you still have the install packet, the part number is on the rail tags. If you don’t, measure the rail channel opening and the picket spacing and we can match it from there. One compatibility gotcha we see regularly: Oldcastle changed the post cap design around 2019, and the newer caps do not press-fit onto pre-2019 posts. We carry both styles on the truck, so it’s a non-issue for us, but it’s the kind of detail that sends DIY buyers back to the store twice.

For Oldcastle specifically, we recommend OEM rails and posts when structural integrity matters: the aluminum gauge is matched to Miami’s wind load requirements, and aftermarket rails from a big-box store are sometimes a full gauge lighter. For hardware like screws, gate hinges, and post caps, quality aftermarket parts work fine and save real money. We’ll tell you which is which before we order anything.

We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products on the interior side, but Oldcastle fence installation is its own trade and we keep that inventory separate.

Signs Your Oldcastle Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Post lean after wind. The post itself is usually fine; the concrete footer has cracked or the post corroded right at the soil line. In Miami, ground-level salt and constant moisture eat aluminum posts faster than anything else.
  • Rail connector pop-out. The small internal clips that hold the rail into the post have fatigued. This is a $4 part, but if it fails on a corner post, the whole panel sags and stresses the next post in line.
  • Gate drag or latch misalignment. The gate post has shifted in its footer, or the hinge screws have wallowed out their holes. Left alone, a dragging gate puts constant strain on the post and eventually cracks the footer.
  • Picket rattling or falling out. The picket is meant to float in the rail, but if the rail channel is bowed from an impact or a fallen branch, pickets start slipping. This usually means a rail replacement, not a picket fix.
  • White chalky residue on aluminum. That’s oxidation from salt exposure. It’s cosmetic at first, but if it’s concentrated at the post base, the aluminum is thinning and a snap is coming.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

Most Oldcastle fence installation work in Miami lands between $4,130 and $10,620, with the average repair running $590 to $1,400 when it’s a section-level fix rather than a full fence rebuild. A complete 150-linear-foot replacement with new posts, rails, pickets, and hardware sits at the top of that range. A single post reset with a new footer runs at the bottom.

What pushes the price up: linear footage, post count, whether the old footer has to be jackhammered out, and gate hardware. We write the parts and labor as separate line items on the estimate, so you see exactly what the Oldcastle-compatible rails cost versus what our crew time costs. No lump-sum mystery. Every Oldcastle fence installation we do carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something we installed fails within a year, we come back and fix it, no invoice.

We don’t bill until the work is done and you’ve walked the fence line with us. The price Luca Romano approves with you is the price on the invoice.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: look for a loose picket you can push back into the rail, check whether the gate latch screw is backing out, and look for cracking in the concrete around the post base. That’s useful diagnostic info to have ready when you call. What we don’t recommend doing yourself is resetting a post in Miami. The footer needs to go below the soil line with the right concrete mix, and if you set it shallow, the next storm takes the whole panel down. That’s a bigger repair than the original one.

We’ve also seen DIY post replacements where the homeowner reused the old corroded post because “it looked fine from the outside.” It snaps six months later, and now two panels are down instead of one. Good work doesn’t need a sales pitch. If the post moves when you push it, or the rail is pulling out of the post channel, call us at (850) 801-8046 and we’ll get eyes on it.
